To My Son
You kissed me at age 5, hugged me at age 10;
You waved good bye at age 15.
After age 16, you did not kiss me, you did not hug me,
You did not even wave good bye when you left home.
But I still love you all the same.
No matter how tall you grow, or how old you are, you are my son all of my life.
Love never disappears, love can be reborn.
You will kiss your wife, hug your kids,
You will be a good husband and father.
You will know a parent’s love.
You texted me, “Thanks, Mom, for letting me become myself.”
I replied, “Thanks, son, for letting me know your heart.”
Love does not need kisses or hugs;
I will wave goodbye instead,
Always whispering, “I love you and I’m proud of you.”
