Following Rabbit Holes & Chasing Plot Bunnies with MJ Moores
Do you have the tendency to write yourself into a corner only to discover that the plot bunny you were chasing morphed into a dust bunny and left you without, well, a way out? What about exploring those fun yet mysterious rabbit holes that take you to strange places (like poor little Alice)? Do you find yourself lost? Stuck? Off the beaten path? Having difficulty seeing your story for all that distracting… fur?
Join MJ Moores in a (yet another) fun, hands-on members only workshop where she’ll take you through a variety of different writing tasks — based around the Socratic Method — meant to nudge you out of your creative corners. Discover (or re-discover) how to use ‘questioning’ to your advantage to find the right plot bunny to chase next.
What to Expect:
- brief sharing of current WIP & present “corner” or “hole” you’re caught in
- quick overview of the Socratic Method and how we’ll use it in context with our story writing
- daydreaming vs creative exploration (what questions to ask yourself)
- the power of “What If” and giving yourself permission to experiment (how a micro-outline of possibilities can become a compass)
- sharing where you think you might go next or which questions you’d like to return to for more consideration.
Bio MJ Moores
A long-time member of the WCYR, MJ Moores has dabbled in all things writing since the age of nine. With an unofficial minor in creative writing, a decade teaching high school English andDrama, and sixteen full-length works of fiction under her belt, her seven years as a freelance editor can only be the cherry on top of a life surrounded by story and words.
MJ loves to write upper YA: sci-fi, fantasy, suspense, adventure, and romance. She recently tried her hand at mystery with her 2022 release Lost Words but found it extremely challenging. She is forever in awe of writers who are able to build fascinating tales of who-done-it and how-done-it—it’s a skill for the bold, the brave, and the be-damned (I’ll be damned if I don’t figure this out)!
