Touching on Taxes with Gwynn Scheltema

November 10, 2019 @ 1:00 pm4:00 pm

$15.00 – $20.00

Being a writer means more than coming up with great story or article ideas that walk off the page and into your readers’ hearts – it also means dealing with Revenue Canada and income taxes.

  • How do I deal with grant money?
  • Do I have to declare my contest winnings?
  • What about money I earn on my book in the US or UK?
  • Honorariums?

Gwynn will discuss the various revenue streams that writers encounter and how to declare them. She will also leave time for your writing-related tax questions

Workshop will be on November 10th, 2019 at the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex. Pre-registration ends November 8th, 2019.

Gwynn Scheltema worked for over 25 years in accounting, teaching and administration. She still returns to the tax office each season to prepare taxes and stay on top of new developments. But Gwynn is also a writer, editor and poet, who understands the challenges creative people face when filing taxes.

From newspaper columnist to ghostwriter, her non-fiction has been published in magazines, newspapers, trade journals, and a variety of business publications. Her fiction and poetry have been published in journals and anthologies in Canada and Europe.

Gwynn was a fiction editor for the literary journal, Lichen Arts & Letters Preview for 10 years, and a writer/editor for the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities for over 15 years. Today, as a partner in Writescape, she teaches creative writing and facilitates retreats, offers coaching and editing services. You can find out more at writescape.ca.
