Patricia Keeney,  an award-winning poet, novelist, theatre and literary critic and professor of Literature, Humanities and Creative Writing at Toronto’s York University will be facilitating this special two-hour workshop in Newmarket.

Do you want to explore “the inside story” that will help you to deepen your connection with your writing and your readers?  Whether or not poetry is your usual genre, all writers can benefit from exploring the poem as an emotional roadmap, otherwise known as the inside story.

This members-only  workshop will examine the history of ideas, the importance of mental space in writing, how to use social media appropriately to find ideas and locate websites that are a continuous source of fodder.  We will discuss why it is important to let ideas percolate and how to use the M.I.C.E. quotient to figure out the kind of story you want to write and how to pinpoint what can help bring it to life.

Let’s catch up in real life. Join us for some time to chat with fellow WCYR members. We’ll  share our experiences of the joy of writing and celebrate our learning, submissions, acceptances, publications and rejections. 

The mic will be open. Come prepared to read a short piece of writing (3 minutes maximum) or sit back and enjoy listening to others. Sign up when you arrive.

Please bring a wrapped, gently used book for a book exchange. Print only the name of the genre on the label.
