Membership Perks: Volunteering is a Win-Win-Win

ย By: Linda Francis

Did you ever wonder why itโ€™s a great idea to join the Writersโ€™ Community of York Region (WCYR)? Well, thereโ€™s a whole list of reasons!

How about: being able to volunteer with the WCYR?

As with so many great organizations, the WCYR is supported by a host of dedicated volunteers. The work they do couldnโ€™t be done without dedicated helpers. Volunteers are people who care, are invested in the group, and work hard for all members โ€“ and there is no paycheque involved. Volunteers are the rhythm and soul of the association, because they work from the heart.

Why do people volunteer? For a number of unique reasons.

An attitude of gratitude. Volunteers are grateful for the opportunities theyโ€™ve had, and want to give back to those communities who have helped them.

To reconnect to a community. Volunteers find this rewarding path of service a great way to reconnect to a local community, make friends, and share skills and knowledge with others.

To gain experience and skills. Volunteers can develop experience and skills during their time with an organization. This allows students without skills, new graduates, those who have been out of the workforce for a while, or simply writers looking to share in their expertise to develop skills, gain experience, and lend helping hand.

What is your situation?ย  What do you have to offer? What are you looking for at this moment in time?

Maybe volunteering is the way to go.

Watch for upcoming posts about volunteer roles we have at the WCYR. Would you like to join us as a volunteer? You could help us, and help yourself, as well as give back โ€“ as a volunteer.

Without dedicated members like you, our not-for-profit organization wouldnโ€™t exist. Therefore itโ€™s a win-win-win!

This is yet another reason to belong to the WCYR!
