National Novel Writing Month

Itโ€™s almost time for Na-No-Wri-Mo 2018. Every year since 1999, with 21 participants, writers have gathered to try to write a 50,000 word novel in a month. The number of writers participating grew to 402, with 142 participants last year. The expectation is not to write a publishable book, but to get words on the page. Editing comes later.

While 50k is a daunting figure, we at WCYR came up with a solution – Mini-Nano. Our only requirement is a minimum word count of 1,000. Thatโ€™s only 33.3 words per day. We set our own goals on our Facebook group – Word by Word. We also have a few write-ins planned where you can join others to write.

The event runs for the month of November. Only words written between November 1 and November 30 count in your total. Visit or joinย Word by Wordย  and post your info in the announcement at the top of the page.

Everyone who submits a goal word count for the month of November will be entered in a draw to win a book!

Then, at the end, if you meet or exceed your goal, you will be entered to win a draw for a free WCYR Seminar in 2019.

If you donโ€™t want to participate, but would like a writing buddy, the write-ins we have scheduled for now are:

Sunday Nov 4 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at Cardinal Press, 222 Main St Newmarket, lead by M.J. Moores
Saturday Nov 10 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at Cardinal Press, 222 Main St Newmarket, lead by Nanci Pattenden
Saturday Nov 17 9:30 am โ€“ 12:00 pm at the Black River Cafe, High Street, Sutton, lead by Sandy Day

For every write-in you attend, your first hot beverage is on us! ($5 max per write-in)

If you wish to host a session, post where and when on the Word by Word page — the more the merrier.

Have fun, good luck, and get writing!
