Open Mic Night

Saturday October 23 ~ 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Come One Come All & Share the Wonder of Words

Whether you’ve composed new words over the past day at the conference that you’d like to share, have previous words you’d like to dust off, or would simply like to listen to shared words, we invite you to participate in the conference’s Open Mic Night.

Attendees, speakers, and volunteers are welcome to register for a 5-10 min slot (depending on how many readers participate) during the open mic. Local poet, short story author, dancer, and teacher Erika MacNeil will host this fantastic evening. Bring your scenes, freewriting, poetry, flash, memoir, and more as we celebrate all things writerly and give life to our words by reading them aloud. If you’re interesting in participating in the reading portion of the evening, please send notification to conference@wcyork.ca to let us know. We will confirm your place at the open mic and then you’ll receive additional notification the week of the conference to verify your participation. First come, first served.

Special guest, author Diane Bator, will bring a scene from one of her “work in progress” plays to be read aloud by volunteers of the WCYR! Playwriting is a new and exciting endeavor for Diane and we are ecstatic that she has agreed to share her early work with us.

So, don’t be shy!

Writers who are emerging, those established, and still those engrossed in learning are all welcome to participate.

Please be mindful when selecting which words to share as overly graphic descriptions/language may be offensive. However, this is an adult audience, and while we’re not rated “R” we are rated “A” for Adult 😀

We hope to see you there 🙂
