Volunteer with Us: Special Events Aids

Enjoy being at the centre of events? OR do you flourish behind-the-scenes?

The WCYR is looking for Special Event Aids to contribute to various special projects/events, wherever they are needed. A Special Event Aid will help the Special Events Coordinators fulfill the required duties for any event and complete any accepted tasks.

Coming up, the WCYR needs volunteers to help organize the Writers’ Symposium  on October 26, 2019. Volunteers will be needed before the day of the event to help with the overall planning, as well as on the day of the event to ensure smooth running. It will be a large event held at Newmarket’s Old Town Hall. The conference will bring together writers from all over the region, and the WCYR wants you to be a part of it. Don’t worry if you’d like to attend, you can still help out both behind the scenes and on the day of. A wide variety of positions can easily accommodate your availability.

Other events continue throughout the year as well. You will be able to choose which ones to work on depending on your personal schedule. Every volunteer is invaluable toward helping make every event amazing.

One of our annual events beginning to gear-up is our book fair The Bookshelf. We are looking for helpers to organize our volunteers and our entertainers. As well, opportunities are present for help with social media, advertising, and day-of helpers.

This is a great opportunity for you to gain some amazing experience working with a professional organization. You can utilize your skills to help the WCYR and its members in a positive and fulfilling way. Volunteering as a Special Event Aid will allow you to have a valuable new item for your résumé under “Volunteer Experience”.

This position is open to any member of the WCYR.

Special Event Aids are Member-at-Large positions and General Team positions depending on how much time you are able to dedicate. As a “thank you” for the time commitment of this position, a frequent Aid may receive a free membership after six months of service, where an occasional Aid will receive a free meeting for helping out.

We would like to fill these positions as soon as possible, so do not hesitate to show your interest. Please contact MJ Moores, Kim McDougall (the Symposium) at meetings@wcyork.ca or Nanci Pattenden (the Bookshelf).
