Playing the Short Game #2: You Sold a Story!: Contracts, Editing, & Reality with Douglas Smith
Thursday, Mar 28, 2019
7:00pm – 9:00pm
**This is a FREE Members-only workshop. Space is limited. Please reserve your spot below.
Following on from Douglas’ workshop in October 2017 and drawing from his how-to book, Playing the Short Game: How to Market & Sell Short Fiction, this workshop focuses on the next phase in a short story writer’s career—when you start to sell your stories. It takes a writer from when they learn an editor wants to buy their story to after it’s published and the reviews start coming.
- Understanding how editors and slush piles work;
- Why editors choose or reject stories;
- What to look (and look out) for in short fiction contracts, and how to ask for changes;
- How to work with an editor during the editing process for your story;
- How to handle rejections and reviews;
- How much promotion is reasonable when you sell a story;
- Cool things that might happen: Awards, best of anthologies,…and even movie rights.
Workshop will be held on Thursday, March 28th, 2019, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at Lauft in the Upper Canada Mall in Newmarket. Registration is now closed for this event.
Finding Lauft: At Upper Canada Mall, use the Market & Co. entrance facing Yonge Street. Walk through the gourmet market section into the Mall. MyLauft is Immediately on the left as you enter the Mall.
