Pacing – Bringing All Your Story Elements Together to Become a Master Manipulator with Kim McDougall

January 30, 2020 @ 7:00 pm9:00 pm

Free

Pacing is the number one element that affects how your reader reacts to your story. It’s the way you, the author manipulates the reader’s emotions. Even scene-by-scene you can learn to make choices that speed up or slow down the reading. Learn to leave your reader’s breathless in action scenes or emotionally wrung out in sensitive romantic scenes.

But what exactly is pacing? How do you manipulate it? In this interactive workshop we’ll look at elements such as:

  • Dialogue
  • Description
  • Transitions
  • Showing vs. Telling
  • Deep POV

Bring your own work-in-progress (or use the prepared samples) to learn how each of these elements can speed up or slow down a narrative and create the exact mood you strive for in each of your scenes.

**This is a FREE Members-only workshop. Tickets are sold out for this event. If you would like to be put on a waiting list to attend, please contact meetings@wcyork.ca.

If Kim McDougall could have one magical superpower, it would be to talk to animals. Or maybe to shift into animal form. Definitely, fantastical critters and magic often feature in her stories. So until she can change into a Griffin and fly away, she writes dark paranormal action and romance tales. Kim is also passionate about fiber art, photography, children’s literacy, rescue animals, nature, and genre-bending fiction. Find more info about Kim’s books at www.KimMcDougall.com.
