Self-publishing 101 with M.J. Moores and Kim McDougall
Getting your book into print can be tricky. Learn the real business of self-publishing from two experienced book publishers, M.J. Moores and Kim McDougall. Explore options for pre-press book design, publishing and distribution. Uncover the secrets of Amazon, Chapters, Kobo and more. Bring your questions and find the answers you need to get your book into the marketplace.
MJ Moores is a hybrid author and editor. Her Chronicles of Xannia sci-fi/fantasy series is self-published under her micro-press Infinite Pathways. She spent five years freelance editing for both indie and querying authors before signing on with DAOwen Publications as the Acquisitions Editor for their Love Knot Books imprint. She has several short stories published in small press anthologies, an essay in the writer’s guide The Writing Spiral, and two non-fiction industry publications through Authors Publish Magazine. MJ enjoys being a hybrid author/editor and having one foot in each side of the publishing world. This unique vantage point allows her to follow the pulse of the marketplace and provide insights into the publishing world at large. MJ is the Chair of the WCYR, a member of the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Association, and the RWA.
Kim McDougall is an author, fiber artist and photographer who has published in many genres with large, medium and small publishers. Her latest series, The Hidden Coven, is independently published and is now available in ebook. Her self-editing manual, Revise to Write is also available in print and ebook. Under her married name, Kim Chatel, she has published 6 books for children. As CEO of Castelane, she also edits and designs books, book covers and video trailers. Kim is a proud board member and speaker wrangler for the Writers’ Community of York Region.
