Benefits of membership
The goal of the Writers’ Community of York Region (WCYR) is to function as a hub for individuals and groups of authors, poets, playwrights, screenwriters, technical writers, journalists, business writers, networkers, editors and supporters of the written word. Please note: due to the fact that some of the materials read/discussed may contain mature themes, content and language, we have established a minimum age of 18 years as eligibility for membership.
We no longer provide a Youth Group option but we are always looking for skilled volunteers to help with initiatives such as these. Please visit the contact page and leave us a message if you are interested in working with us.

Membership also gives you privileges with the Writers’ Community of Durham Region (WCDR) and our professional partners.
Our main location is the Newmarket Public Library but we’ve moved to a hybrid program offering with most of our meetings in person and some available via Zoom. Fees to attend monthly events vary, starting at $20.00 for registered WCYR members and $25 for non-members. Applicable fees are listed with each event. Attendance requires advance registration.
Membership is currently $70.00. This fee allows you to enjoy these these perks that may be offered each September to June session.
