June’s Bookclub Meeting

For June’s bookclub meeting, we will be reading Sunshine Girls by Sheila Horne.

Sunshine Girls explores the complexities of friendship, family dynamics and personal growth against the backdrop of the 1970s. The story revolves around four young women whose journey is marked by the transformative social and political upheavals of the time, as well as their own struggles with identity, independence and love. Ella realizes everything she trusted as a child is a lie. Raynie believes marriage is a woman’s easy way out. Jessie would rather face life stoned while Meg desperately wants a husband and family. But their values and friendship are soon tested when an accident sparks a series of life-altering events.
