HNY 2020!

Happy New Year!!

For our last gathering of 2019, we decided to change things up. Our holiday social was more writer-inspired this year. We spent this season’s event sipping hot drinks and nibbling on treats at A Hui Hou café on Main St. in Newmarket, while sharing our stories. We started the evening by asking – and encouraging – our members to read a piece of their writing. We had selections from a spectrum of genres. We heard from a children’s book, sci-fi, fantasy, and even a radio play. It was a pleasure to listen to everyone’s words.

After listening to the readings, we swapped some writing insights, and shared our holiday plans. It isn’t often we get a chance to talk with WCYR members we don’t know very well, for such an extended period. We could go a little deeper into our processes with each other, learning about writing/life balance, and hearing about future projects. Encouraging words were exchanged, something we are often too busy for when bustling about to get a meeting started.

We’d like to thank A Hui Hou for hosting us, especially with such short notice. The owner also encouraged us, and said that her wish was for someone to write a novel in her establishment. I am sure a WCYR member can help her out. New year, new project?

We would also like to thank Erika for being our MC. We encourage writers to go to the WCYR Open Mic with Erika, the third Sunday of every month at Cardinal Press.

2020 is here and we look forward to all of the activities we have scheduled.
