Announcing Activated, by Roderick D. Turner

About the Book:

Two alien races at war with each other. One heroic woman willing to sacrifice anything to save them all. Can she live with the price of her commitment?

Anja Petersen and her companions have found their new place in life, within the Institute that brought them together. A purpose, and a home. But not peace.

Anja knows there is danger coming, and she must act. A desperate journey to a distant planet, a narrow escape, and an invading fleet set on destroying Earth. Or are they? The truth lies deeper than it appears, and Anja’s new companions, Leanne and Avery, carry their own mysterious strengths, abilities they are completely unaware of but which may hold the key to survival. Not just for themselves, but for Anja, her friends, and the universe. And the anguish of knowing this will not let her rest.

Anja draws all those close to her into the fight. Because the enemy is not only real, it is here. With the ability to manipulate others, to assimilate their skills and gifts, they grow ever more powerful. Yet they are not alone, driven and manipulated by the very species Anja has rescued once from certain annihilation. Against such overwhelming odds, such single-minded purpose, can there truly be any hope? It may come from an unexpected source, through a convoluted, hidden path that only Leanne and Avery can navigate. And Anja knows that it is she alone who can find that path for them. The burden, almost too much to bear. She must find it, walk it with them, and succeed. One chance, and one only. Or all will be lost.

Activated takes us on one woman’s continuing journey into the unknown. To the furthest reaches of space, distant planets where humanity’s many trials are being played out on alien races very different from our own. Not only must she grow into the leader she is destined to be, she must endure hardships that would devastate the boldest and strongest, personal anguish that would daunt the most steadfast. Should she fail, there will be no tomorrow for many billions. But if she succeeds – the doors to the universe will be unlocked.
