About the book:
Like most writers, I’ve poured parts of my life into this story. Sure, it’s loosely based on the time I dared to take a teacher training course in yoga, but trust me, the places and characters are fictionalized. No yogis were harmed in the making of this book. It’s as if The Devil Wears Prada went to the yoga academy of Eat, Pray, Love.
Madeleine can’t wait to immerse herself in the highly-regarded instructor’s program led by the revered, yet mercurial, yoga teacher, Hazel. Heart bursting with enthusiasm and excitement, it doesn’t take long for Madeleine to fall prey to Hurricane Hazel, when the instructor eviscerates her self-worth. Who knew that the serene yoga community, known for its calm refuge, could simmer with egos and political strife?
Madeleine channels her stubborn drive to attain the required certification and stumbles her way through this conflicting yoga labyrinth, marked by an unsettling tolerance for abrasive personalities. She needs this – not just for validation as a teacher but for something deeper that she can’t yet articulate. She knows, in the depths of her soul, that she must see it through. But at what cost?
Will Madeleine risk losing all sense of self, bending over backwards, in pursuit of enlightenment at the foot of the revered Hazel Duncan?
Om My God exists because I leaned on people way smarter than me. (Seriously, what do I know about publishing a book?) To my incredible writing family at the Writers’ Community of York Region (WCYR)—you not only taught me the ropes but also cheered me on when I doubted myself.
A massive shoutout to my editor, M.J. Moores, for transforming my chaotic draft into an actual novel. Thanks for your endless patience, mentorship, and magical ability to nudge me toward self-publishing without terrifying me (too much).
