Call For Workshop Volunteers

I’ve been volunteering as a presenter at library writing groups for about two years now, and the experience couldn’t be more rewarding. The participants are consistently eager and excited to learn, no matter the topic or the activity. I typically lead a workshop every month or two, both in person and virtually.

Presenting has helped me reconnect with my love of teaching while sharing my passion for writing. As a bonus, I can promote my business, my books, and the WCYR at each session, which has led to client inquiries and new WCYR members.

When the position of Library Liaison became available, I was glad to take it on. Speaking at library writing groups is a valuable outreach initiative for the WCYR, and I hope to see it grow in the years to come.

I hope you will consider joining me as a workshop facilitator.

As the new Library Liaison, my priority is updating our list of available workshops.  This is a great opportunity to share your expertise, connect with new audiences, and build your profile as a writer and presenter.

What’s in it for you:

  • exposure to new readers and writers
  • recognition within the community
  • experience leading workshops (great for your portfolio)
  • a rewarding, engaging experience (the enthusiasm is infectious!)

What we’re looking for:

Members interested in leading a workshop on any writing-related topic—the craft of writing, publishing, editing, genre-specific sessions, marketing, or anything you’re passionate about.

Workshops typically run 60–90 minutes and may be lecture-style or include interactive components. Libraries generally provide any required technology if requested in advance.

Presenters are volunteers (that means they do this for the experience, not for pay). However, you’re welcome to briefly promote your work at the start of your session—and don’t forget to mention the WCYR as part of this outreach initiative.

Interested?

Send me the title of your proposed workshop, a brief description, and a short bio to be added to our master list, which is shared with library writing groups across York Region. Please also let me know your availability throughout the year.

If a group is interested, they’ll contact you directly to arrange details.

That’s it! A short outline is enough to get started.

If you’ve been thinking about teaching or sharing your knowledge, this is a low-pressure way to do it while supporting both the WCYR and the wider community.

Contact me at wcyr.membership@gmail.com with questions or submissions. I’d love to hear from you.
