About Carol Teal

Carol writes memoir, nonfiction and fiction and loves helping other writers get their stories on the page. Through workshops that generate new ideas, and book coaching writers working on longer projects, she helps writers craft stories from life and imagination. A firm believer in life-long learning, she completed her MFA in Creative Writing in 2022 and Book Coaching certifications in Memoir and Fiction through Author Accelerator, a premier organization in Book Coaching.

Since then, she has led writing workshops and courses in person and online in memoir, fiction, and creative nonfiction. In summer she enjoys teaching writing courses at the Haliburton School for the Arts. Her work has been published in SBLAAM -Smoky Blue Literary & Arts Mag, 101Words, and others.
Raised on the South Dakota prairies, her writing often reflects her love of nature. After a career as a Speech Pathologist focused on the priceless value of communication in our lives, she retired to continue her interest in communication through writing. A long-time resident of Ontario, Canada, she now splits her time between Arizona and Ontario. She leads writing workshops in both locations and enjoys the supportive communities built through writing together.
Carol believes we are all born with creative genius and welcomes you to join her in exploring your muse in a fun, creative, supportive writing environment.

Which writers inspire you and why?
Writers who write to educate us and make us think about the natural world and what we need to do to preserve it. Authors that make us think about relationships, culture, and society.
What is your favourite genre in which to write and why?
Memoir and Fiction – I can’t choose! I love them both Memoir because I love hearing about other people’s experiences in depth. Fiction because it can be used to educate, inspire, and entertain!
Do you have a current work in progress? Can you tell us a bit about it?
I’m working on a speculative environmental novel about whales and the fishing industry, with a romance intertwined and a bit of magical realism.
